The holiday season is quickly approaching and while it might be the most wonderful time of the year, it can also be very stressful.

Instead of letting the stress of the holidays overwhelm you, why not plan a weekend vacation in Happy Valley?

You can find something for everyone on your shopping list, but more importantly relax and enjoy the comforts of State College with terrific restaurants and entertainment.

Plus, if you’re a Penn State alum, there’s an added incentive to visiting your old stomping grounds.

Our newly created Alumni Discount Plan (website) allows Penn State alums to receive 15% off their stay at any one of our six hotel properties.

Put that extra cash you save with your stay towards that shopping excursion!

Downtown State College is a terrific shopping hub because there are so many different types of stores to choose from and they are all within walking distance from each other.

Shoppers will find essentials such as clothing, jewelry, children’s learning toys, and Penn State merchandise, as well as specialty items such as cigars, comic books, artwork, kitchenware and electronics.

Our most convenient property is the Days Inn Penn State (website). If you stay at the Days Inn, located on Pugh Street, all the shopping is just a short walk outside your hotel room.

You can shop for the latest clothing at stores such as Urban Outfitters, Access and Harper’s Shop for Men.

Of course, what’s a shopping trip to Happy Valley without getting some Penn State merchandise and memorabilia? Lions Pride, The Family Clothesline, Rapid Transit Sports and McClanahan’s are just some of the biggest stores for Penn State gear. There’s a good chance that no matter what store you enter, there will be some type of Penn State product.

If you need a break from your shopping excursion, there are plenty of coffee shops and cafés to make yourself comfortable. While the downtown area does have a Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts, why not enjoy local cafes such as Irving’s, Saint’s Café and the newly reopened Webster’s Bookstore and Café.

After you’ve crossed everything off your shopping list, how about some good old fashioned relaxing? After all, that’s the primary reason for a getaway.

Get pampered with a spa day at our very own Carnegie Inn & Spa (website) home to a state-of-the-art spa and award-winning fine dining. The spa’s seven private treatment suites, steam rooms and state-of-the-art manicure and pedicure areas are sure to revitalize you after a long day of shopping.

After your refreshing spa treatment, be sure to pay a visit to the Carnegie’s dining room for a decadent meal prepared by executive chef Lisa Palermo.

Don’t let the holidays become a burden. Make holiday shopping fun when you come to Happy Valley!
