The biggest event is the annual Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, commonly known as THON. THON is a 46-hour no sitting, no sleeping marathon that has raised more than $89 million to fight pediatric cancer since it started in 1977. It is the largest student-run philanthropic event in the world.

From Feb. 15-17, the BJC will be filled with vibrant colors, joyful music and lots of excitement as thousands of students enjoy some fun and games with THON children and their families.

Parents, if your son or daughter is dancing in THON and you are planning to be there for the weekend, check out several of these offers. Plus, we also offer a Parent Discount Plan where you can receive 15 percent off your stay at any of our six hotels.

The second notable charitable event takes place on Sunday, Feb. 24 as the Penn State Lady Lions host Michigan in the annual “Pink Zone” game. Every year, this game is the biggest for the team because it’s always about more than basketball.

Everyone in the arena wears pink to support breast cancer survivors and those who are battling the disease. The Lady Lions wear special pink uniforms and fans that come to the game are given pink t-shirts.

Last year more than 500 breast cancer survivors attended the game.

For every ticket sold, $3 is donated to the Pink Zone at Penn State fundraising efforts. Fans attending the game will also receive a pink silicone bracelet and a pink glow necklace while supplies last.

In 2012, the team donated a record $203,000 to breast cancer causes.

It’s special events like these that make Happy Valley such a unique place. If you’ve never experienced THON or the Pink Zone, please consider experiencing either event as you’re sure to have a good time and help make a impact on someone’s life.

On Wednesday, Feb. 27 the Penn State men’s basketball team will host the No. 3 ranked Michigan Wolverines. It’s been a struggle this season for the Lions as they are currently winless in the Big Ten. But they have played tough and nearly upset a couple highly-ranked opponents this year. Wouldn’t it be great to see them topple one of their biggest rivals in person?

February is also not light on major concerts with Luke Bryan performing Feb. 8 and Bon Jovi on Feb. 23 This will be the third time Bon Jovi has played at the BJC. Previously the legendary New Jersey rocker performed in 2003 and 2011. He returns to Happy Valley as part of his “Because We Can Tour” which will debut songs from his upcoming album “What About Now.”

For Bryan, The “Dirt Road Diaries” Tour is the first major tour of the country music singer’s career. Previously an opening act for performers such as Tim McGraw, Bryan is now one of the biggest names in country music with hit songs such as “Country Girl” and “I Don’t Want This Night to End.”
